I was recently reunited with author Brian Wallace at a class reunion of sorts. I had heard he was an author but had not seen any of his titles. When asked, he gave them to me. (It's Not Your Hair, Labyrinth of Chaos, Mind Transmission, Inc. <----Last two in print form only available online) This is the first of his books I have read. Fantastic. I love the way he tells the story from Miss Things point of view. She is a hairdresser with a firecracker personality who always seems to find a party. It seemed like I was right there with her throughout her adventures. I especially loved all the references to the many old sitcoms and cartoons. Many I have not thought about in ages. That brought back many memories of my own. This was a very wonderful book and a fun read that will appeal to many reader tastes. Don't pass it up.Product details

Following glimpses at a hairdresser's life turned out to be a very entertaining and relaxed reading. And I'm not even in that business. Actually, I'm the type of guy that goes to a barbershop, rather than a salon. With all that, laughed my '...' off to some of the stories in the book.
I couldn't stop laughing while reading the book. Great story narrated in the funniest way possible. Still have flashbacks of Miss Thing's adventures. Two thumbs up!!! MUST READ! Can't wait for a second part!
I must confess I choose this book because it was something new with an interesting enough cover for light beach fare. Was I surprised when I was drawn in as a helpless bystander who could not look away. Fascinating characters
and a consuming storyline kept me from putting it down until it was over. I want more. This cannot be the end of Miss Thing!
A super fun read! Brian Wallace does an amazing job writing in a way that makes you feel like you are listening to Miss Thing talk. A unique perspective on life. Miss Thing may be a party girl, but she has morals and standards! A light and fun look into a young urbanite's free and easy lifestyle.
Its Not Your Hair has many of the attributes I look for in a book...very funny, an enjoyable read, and quite enlightening. If one wants to look behind the scenes of the hairdressing industry, look no farther. This book delves into the good, the bad and the ugly in an honest and humorous way. Highly recommend this book.
Miss Thing has been my hairdresser for more than 20 years--and after reading her book, I feel REALLY lucky that she's kept me this long! During our years together, she has shared with me some of her run-ins with bride-zillas, drag-queen divas, strange people at the gym and difficult clients. I lived vicariously through her "disco era". I actually know her as one the kindest, most level-headed people I've ever met. But, Holy Cow! Miss Thing has turned her life experiences into one wild ride of a book! Her descriptions of all of her colorful characters are priceless--the reader really gets to know them--warts and all! I thank you, Miss Thing, for sharing this hilarious story with all of us!
If you're looking for an easy beach read this summer, this is your book! Enjoyed the funny little anecdotes that took me back to the 1980's and all it's glory. The characters were great, and can only assume based on real people; some of whom I would love to know where they are now. My favorite part is how Miss Thang always seems to name her garments. Brought back lots of memories fighting over, and stealing, clothes from my sister! And on a more thoughtful note, It was a unique to look back on how we treated people back in the day. I can certainly appreciate how much our world has changed in the last 25 years. Such a shame at what some of her characters had to go through. Overall, a funny, heartwarming read.
